What is Susan Cockburn’s legacy?

TOWN OF MONTGOMERY — Before Susan Cockburn ran for town supervisor, she posted a sign on her lawn listing meeting dates and the acronym GOYA. Throughout her four years, she has urged community members, whether or not they agreed with her, to “Get Off Your Ass.”

Before turning her office over to Mike Hayes, who defeated her in November, Cockburn is scrambling to finish many projects. She has begun initiatives on wetlands, historic preservation, and police operational changes. Yet, despite how her ideas impact the town, she hopes her legacy is that she got the town talking — albeit sometimes fighting — over the best path to Montgomery’s future.
